It’s been over two since Xiaomi announced the Redmi Go device. They have continued to support the phone with regular security patch updates, but it doesn’t look like they have plans of upgrading the OS. After over two years, the device still runs on pre-installed Android 8.1 Oreo. With that, the device won’t go past the current OS version, which the new stable update for Redmi Go is based.
The update is hitting both the global and EEA models. It comes with a version number – MIUI 10.2.25.0 OCLMIXM – and weighs in at 194MB. The EEA variants are also receiving the same update but come in a different package with a version number – MIUI 10.2.19.0 OCLRUXM. It’s a stable release, which means you’ll soon get a notification for a new update, but as always, we have a link below this post for manual installation. The update is aimed at improving system performance, security, and stability.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the device will get a new OS or MIUI upgrade. Xiaomi is probably reluctant to upgrade the device, given system compatibility. It debuted with Snapdragon 425 Octa-Core SoC paired with 1GB of RAM and up to 16GB of internal storage. There are a dedicated expansion slot and a 3000mAh battery. Outside-of-the-box, the device runs Android Go on top of MIUI 10, and that’s where it has been since. Luckily, you can upgrade the device to Android 10 via custom ROMs, but there would require unlocking Bootloader and other stuff.
