POCO has introduced yet another device to its bunch of affordable smartphones. This time, it’s the Pro version of last year’s POCO M3 and is dubbed POCO M3 Pro (5G). The device is an upgrade to the latter, but the former will have a better battery life because of the battery capacity. Both phones sport the same screen size, but this time, the Pro model comes on top with a 90Hz refresh rate.

POCO M3 Pro Specs

The POCO M3 Pro design isn’t entirely new. It’s the same with the recently released Redmi Note 5G, but you can differentiate between the two phones easily. Perhaps, you’ll need to look at the back as there’s a bold POCO logo below the camera bump. The bumps house a triple camera sensor and the LED flash. Around the front is a tall 6.53-inch display with thin bezels and a punch hole for the selfie camera. At the frames are the power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, volume rocker, and the sim-tray. POCO is offering the device in Yellow, Black, and Cool blue colours.

POCO M3 Pro display

There’s a tall 6.53-inch display on the POCO M3 Pro. It refreshes at 90Hz (Dynamic switch: 30/50/60fps) and supports 400nits of brightness. The display is a FullHD+ display meaning you playback HD content with the device. And to complement the sturdy build, POCO equipped the device with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The glass is resistant to scratch and mild fall, and with that, you won’t have to. Change your display for any single fall.

POCO M3 Pro performance

Behind the performance is Mediatek Dimensity 700 5G SoC. Yes, the POCO M3 is 5G-enabled with a peak download speed of up to 2.77Gbps. The chip uses a 7nm manufacturing process, making it a better processor compared to the 11nm Snapdragon 662 SoC on the vanilla version. It uses more advanced Cortex-A76 cores, and coupled with Mali-G75 GPU, makes the device faster. Outside-of-the-box, the device runs Android 11 on top of MIUI 12 instead of MIUI 12.5.

POCO M3 Pro camera

There’s a total of four camera sensors on the POCO M3 Pro. At the back is a primary 48MP snapper with PDAF, paired with 2MP macro and depth sensors. It features a Dual-LED Dual-tone flash, HDR, and panorama. The front selfie snapper is a single 8MP shooter with support for face unlock. Both the rear and front sensors can only shoot 1080p@30fos videos.

POCO M3 Pro battery and security

The battery capacity is down to 5000mAh from 6000mAh. But with a more efficient processor, power consumption will be close to the vanilla version. It charges at 18W and comes with a 22.5W charger. As for security, the device uses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The scanner has been optimized to unlock your device in a fraction of seconds.

POCO M3 Pro price and availability

POCO M3 Pro price starts at $219 for the base 4/64GB memory option, while the 6/128GB option sets you back $243. There’s an early bird that’ll see the phone up for grabs for $179 and $229 respectively. The device is now available for purchase on the POCO official store, AliExpress and others.
