POCO came into limelight in 2018, when it released a $300 phone with Qualcomm flagship SoC. And early this year, it gained independence but has come under fire by the public for releasing rebranded Redmi phones. And while that marketing strategy isn’t entirely bad, the company doesn’t plan on taking a different approach either.
According to Poco executive, Anuj Sharma, the company is still very new, and designing an entirely new phone is somewhat difficult at the moment. He said that the company believes these rebranded Redmi phones offer better value for money, and as such, the company will continue on that route. Below are the words of Poco executive, Sharma;
“The first OnePlus phone – OnePlus One – was a rebranded Oppo device and similar was the case with Realme’s first phone (sic). Brands often tend to follow this strategy and this isn’t anything new in Poco’s case,”
The executive also confirmed that the recently released POCO F2 Pro isn’t the direct successor of the popular Pocophone F1 from 2018. Perhaps that’s why it went for Poco F2 Pro instead of Poco F2, and according to the executive, we are going to see the successor to Poco F1 very soon.
We are looking forward to seeing a device that will come close to the aggressive budget price of the Poco F1. The device was a true-flagship killer, with a starting price of $300. However, it’s almost impossible to see a premium smartphone start at the price range considering the current smartphone trends.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC is already expensive, coupled with the multi-camera set-up. And according to reports, this successor to Poco F1 might debut next year, and if it turns out to be true will use the Snapdragon 875 SoC instead. However, we expect to see price drop in 5G cost next year, and that might help the company to finally release the true successor to Poco F1, in terms of price.
