Qualcomm promised 5G connectivity for everyone and has done their bit by expanding their portfolio of 5G-enabled SoC. Early this year, the company introduced the Snapdragon 780G SoC, which is currently powering some mid-range smartphones like Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. Now, they have updated their Snapdragon 700-series with a new SoC. It’s perhaps the same with Snapdragon 780G but uses a 6nm manufacturing process to give the former an edge.
The Qualcomm snapdragon 778G SoC uses Kryo 670 cores with a frequency speed of 2.4GHz. It combines that with the Adreno 642 GPU and Spectra 570L ISP. Qualcomm triple ISP lets you capture three 22MP photos at one click. With Snapdragon 778G phones, you’ll be able to capture HDR10+ videos in over 1Billion shades of color.
As expected, the SoC features Qualcomm 6th generation Hexagon 770 processor with a fused AI accelerator. That means a faster data transfer between all the cores, which combines with other features to “produce a combined AI performance of up to 12 TOPS.”
Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G phones will feature the company’s Elite Gaming Technology that combines with the Adreno 642GPU to deliver an immersive gaming experience. The gaming experience further improved with Qualcomm’s Sound technology, which outputs premium sounds when playing games. The SoC supports Bluetooth 5.2 for a crisp, reliable, and responsive voice and music.
Interestingly, the SoC integrates Qualcomm X53 5G modem with a peak download speed of up to 3.7GBps. It supports mmWave and sub-6 5G connectivity. Looking at the features of the Snapdragon 778G SoC, it’s the same as SD 780G. Hence, there won’t be significant improvement between Snapdragon 778G phones and the 780G.

Honor 50 and P50 Pro
The Honor P50 and P50 Pro are the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 778 SoC. Both phones have many things in common, but as expected, the Pro variant comes on top. It features a 6.72-inch OLED panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. The vanilla version sports a more compact 6.57-inch, with both models sharing other features. Surprisingly, the Pro model features a 4000mAh while the vanilla version tops 300mAh. However, the former has a more advanced charging tech with the 100W charger expected to charge from 0 to 100 in 25 minutes. It will take latter about 40 minutes for a full charge. Meanwhile, it is expected to charge 70% in 20 minutes.
Both phones feature an under-display fingerprint scanner, NFC and come in Frost Crystal, Amber Red, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black. You can purchase from AliExpress starting from $500.
Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE joins the exclusive list of Snapdragon 778G phones. The device is similar to the Mi 11 Lite 5G but features a different processor. It has a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel that refreshes at 90Hz with HDR10+ support. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 778G Octa-Core SOC paired with up to 12GB of RAM. There’s a 256GB memory option with an option for expansion. The battery is a tad small, considering the power-demanding features. However, with the 33W fast charge support, you will get a full battery in a couple of minutes.
The camera sensors are primary 64MP snapper, an 8MP Ultra-wide angle, and a 5MP telephoto macro shooter. At the front panel is a single 20MP that supports HDR and wide-angle shots. Unfortunately, there’s no headphone jack, but you get dual stereo speakers. Check for the full specs here.
Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro
Huawei’s latest mid-range offerings use the Snapdragon 778G SOC. Interestingly, it’s the 4G version that features on both phones. It means that you won’t get a 5G internet connection with these phones. Also, they both run Harmony OS 2 outside of the box and not Android.
Both phones feature an AMOLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz. It’s a 6.57-inch display on the Nova 9, while the Pro version gets a 6.72-inch screen. The selfie camera is a 32 MP sensor, but the Pro variant adds an Ultra wide lens. Both phones have an optical under-display fingerprint scanner.

Prices start from$418 for the vanilla version and $542 for the Pro model.
iQOO Z5
The iQOO Z5 is the latest phone on our list of Snapdragon 778G phones. It features a tall 6.67-inch IPS panel that refreshes at 120Hz. There’s a punch hole for the 16MP selfie snapper, and of course, there’s no under-screen fingerprint scanner.
At the back is a triple camera arrangement. The primary 64 MP shooter is paired with an 8MP Ultra-wide Angle and 2 MP depth sensor. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 778G SOC paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 5000mAh battery supports 44W fast charging. Interestingly, there’s both a headphone jack and dual stereo speakers. Outside of the box, the device runs Android 11 on top of Origin OS. The International version will run FunTouch OS 12. The price starts from $293.
