Real-time lyrics isn’t a new feature for those on Apple Music, the feature is also making its way to Android and iOS users of YouTube Music.
Further details on the YouTube Music Real-time lyrics
When you drag up the center tab at the bottom of Currently Playing, YouTube Music currently displays static lyrics. The font size and spacing are greatly increased with live support. Everything else is darker, except for the current line, which is highlighted in white with automatic scrolling.
This approach resembles other streaming services visually, but the concept is comparable to what we’ve seen with Cast on television. Google has been teasing this potential for quite some time. Last October, YouTube Music announced a partnership with MusixMatch to expand coverage, promising “even more Lyric features in the future.”
These features are now available to a small number of Android users, although they are not broadly available. This will finally bring YouTube Music and other applications feature parity. Perhaps, this functionality will be added to the Nest Hub and other Smart Displays, as Google Play Music was in 2018. Meanwhile, there’s a feature to allow users to access podcasts on YouTube music.
The revelation was announced via a tweet by SquadCast.FM’s Arielle Nissenblatt, who also provided some early details about how the functionality would operate, such as the fact that YouTube Music would broadcast podcasts even if the user’s screen was closed.
The podcast experience on YouTube Music will be audio-first and try to “unify the audio and video experience,” allowing listeners to start listening to a podcast on one device before continuing it on another, according to Alban Brooke of Buzzsprout in a separate tweet about the launch.
