The MIUI 12.5 deployment is in the final stages as most eligible devices have already bagged the update. What Xiaomi is doing now is to bring the build to all regions. And because some phones had to upgrade to Android 11 before MIUI 12.5, delayed their deployment. That’s the case with Redmi 9 units in Europe as it still waits for the arrival of the new MIUI OS. However, that’s a matter of hours now as Xiaomi starts pushing the Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update in Turkey tagged with Android 11.
We expect the same approach Xiaomi took with the POCO X3 NFC rollout. It started seeding the update for the device in Europe a few hours after it was released in Turkey. With that, we expect to see the update start seeding in Europe in a few hours or days. But while the rollout is tagged with Android 11 in Turkey, the European models aren’t getting the same. The device in that region has already received Android 11, except you didn’t upgrade.
The Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update in Turkey is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RJCTRXM. As expected, it comes with features of the new MIUI OS. Aside from the new addition, the update has bumped the Android security patch level to August 2021 while the OS is on Android 11.
And because it’s an OTA with two upgrades, we recommend that you back up your data before upgrading. Also, know that after upgrading to MIUI 12.5, third-party launchers will stop working on gestures. The fix is to switch back to the MIUI launcher, and luckily, a new version has just been released. You can download it here.
