Xiaomi has been working on improving the performance of its devices. It’s been months since the company released MIUI 12, which saw total overhauling of the system UI. That left some bugs, which Xiaomi has been working to address. Currently, a new Enhanced Edition of MIUI 12.5 is seeding to eligible phones to address the issues affecting MIUI. Although Xiaomi claimed the build didn’t bring any feature but optimization, it did add the Virtual RAM extension function.
The Virtual RAM extension function has been in development since last year. It’s a way to increase the available RAM on a device when an app or game is pushing the device to its limit. With the function enabled, part of the internal storage will be converted into virtual RAM. Meanwhile, it’s unclear if it makes the device perform better, but it did improve the performance during extensive multitasking and gaming.
Xiaomi has already released the function to a handful of devices. It’s currently seeding with the Enhanced Edition of MIUI 12.5, which has arrived on some entry-level and mid phones. According to reports, the Redmi K30 / POCO X2 and Mi CC9 Pro / Mi Note 10/Pro have also received the feature. It arrived with the current closed beta build in China, meaning the stable ROM users will bag in soon. Perhaps, it will arrive on these phones with MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.
That said, we expect the POCO X2 and Mi Note 10/Pro to start receiving the Virtual RAM Extension function with the Enhanced Edition of MIUI 12.5. Unfortunately, we don’t know when Xiaomi plans to release the update, but it should be soon. You can stay updated by following our tracker page.
