Redmi Redmi K40 Gaming Edition specs
The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition didn’t disappoint with the design. It has a glass build made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and supports IP53, making it splash and dust resistance. It ticks all the boxes of a basic gaming phone. The device features physical pop-up gaming triggers and dual Hi-Res stereo speakers. One of them is at the bottom close to the USB-C port, with the other sitting on the top. It keeps a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles at the power button. Xiaomi is offering the device in Silver, Gray, Black, and a special Bruce Lee Edition.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition display
A gaming smartphone should have an excellent display because that’s why all the virtuals are displayed. The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition takes care of that with a tall 6.67-inch OLED display. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling, which improves the latency of the display. Also, there’s HDR10+ support, DCI-P3 color coverage to ensure accurate details and color representation. And to complement the sturdy design, the device is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The glass is resistant to scratch and mild falls.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition performance
Xiaomi has equipped the device with a 6nm processor from Mediatek. It’s the Dimensity 1200 5G running inside the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. The processor has a single prime core clocked at 3.0GHz, 3 Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6Hz, and 4 Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. Of course, it’s an Octa-Core processor, and coupled with up to 12GB of RAM, Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, the device will deliver peak performance.
As a gaming smartphone, extra measures have been taking to improve heat dissipation. Although there are no inbuilt fans, Xiaomi still managed to reduce heat by combining graphene, graphite, and a vapor chamber.
The device is the first Xiaomi phone to run MIUI 12.5 outside-of-the-box on top of Android 11. It’s already receiving updates to improve the performance. However, it lacks a Google framework, and hence, GApps won’t work on the device. But you can try this technique and see if there’s any luck.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition camera
We didn’t expect these Redmi K40 Gaming Edition specs to impress, given that the device is game-centric. However, it’d impress with a triple primary 64MP shooter, accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide angle lens and 2MP macro shooter. Video is capped at 4k@30fps for the primary camera, while the selfie shooter gets a single 16MP snapper. It supports HDR and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition battery and security
The device features a 5065mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. It takes 42 minutes to a full charge that will last for days, depending on the usage pattern. There’s no mention of wireless charging, so we doubt the device supports it. For security, it’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner with overall improved performance.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition price and Availability
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition price starts at $310 (CYN 1,999) for the base 6/128GB version. There’s a version with 8/128GB that starts at $340 (CNY 2,299) and a 8/256GB version for $370 (2,399). The more premium 12/256GB version has an asking price of $420 (CNY 2,699).
