Redmi might be planning on introducing a mini phone, but there’s an obstacle

It’s no secret that Redmi executive, Lu Weibing, is a fan of Apple iPhones. The company recently introduced the iPhone 12 series, which among them is the iPhone 12 mini. It’s the smallest of them, and according to Lu Weibing, Redmi might be planning on introducing a mini phone, going by his post on Weibo.

Redmi is about introducing a Mini phone

That’s a great news for people who don’t fancy big screens. All Xiaomi phones released this year have a massive screen starting from at least 6.4-inch. The Black Shark 3 Pro that debuted early this year hit 7.1-inches, almost the size of a tablet, but that’s understandable given that the device was made specifically for gaming.

However, it seems Redmi has thought about introducing a mini phone, which is a step in the right direction. The initiative is probably from the iPhone 12 mini, but there’s going to be an obstacle, according to Lu Weibing.

According to him, “the battery capacity/life will sacrifice a lot…” and here is what the statement means. A smaller or mini phone means limited space for a big battery. If Redmi chooses to introduce a mini phone, these are some obstacles they’ve got to overcome as to equip it with a big battery capacity.

First, it’s believed that battery degradation is most likely to affect a smaller battery. However, we have seen iPhones debut with small batteries, which has always served its purpose. We believe that it can be overcome, by using good battery optimization software. Also, the thickness can be increased to provide additional space to house the big battery capacity.

Either way, the battery capacity is what the company should consider very well. There are now so many smartphone features that drain the battery, such as high refresh rate, 5G, and others. It becomes important for a big battery that will handle all these tasks without having an impact on battery life.
