Several months after the release of Redmi Note 8, the device is still languishing in Android 9 Pie. It gets frustrating when you realize that Redmi Note 8 Pro received Android 10 three months ago, and even Redmi 8 is also now getting the update. But it’s like everything is about to change, and it’s believed to be in style.
A couple of Redmi phones eligible for Android 10 were said to receive the update as part of MIUI 12. Unfortunately, to an extent, that was wrong. The Redmi 7, Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 7A have all received stable Android 10 with MIUI 11. Even the Redmi 8 that recently upgraded to a new OS, still based on MIUI 11.
Meanwhile, according to reports, the Redmi Note 8 will receive Android 10 as part of the MIUI 12 update. Recall that MIUI 12 beta testing was suspended for the device until recently because of Android 10. Although the MIUI 12 update for the device got pulled, we were able to verify the inclusion of Android 10.
The latest MIUI 12 Beta update for Redmi Note 8, meanwhile, has started arriving for eligible users again. It has a version number – MIUI 12 20.7.3 – based on Android 10.
Given that Xiaomi has stopped beta testing for its global device, it’s only the Chinese users that can participate in the beta testing, unless you’re using a Chinese model. You can check this post if you wish to join the Beta team members.
Also, according to reports, the Redmi Note 8 is now testing stable MIUI 12 ROM in China. Stable Beta testing lasts for, at least, two weeks, which after, the update starts rolling out for the public. And yes, the update will start in China and will progressively get to the global variant.
It’s now clear that Redmi Note 8 will receive Android 10 as part of the MIUI 12 update. It will be the first Redmi phone to do that, at least in China, with the update yet to hit global Redmi 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 8.
