The Redmi Note 8 series remains very popular among smartphone enthusiasts. It sold in millions and was on the list of best-selling smartphones last year. Probably for that reason, Xiaomi decided to treat the device users with another OS update, even though it completed Android 10 a few months ago. They’ve since rolled out the first public Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update in China, and we’re expecting a global release soon. However, it seems the update is still under testing after a stable MIUI 12 based Android 10 update was released a couple of days ago. The update is currently available globally and in Europe, with other regions expected to receive it shortly.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8T, which is identical to the regular version, hasn’t received an update for months. And according to reports, Xiaomi currently doesn’t have plans of upgrading the device to Android 11 at the moment. The situation may change later, but for now, “No information. And I do not see very likely that it will update to Android 11.” That’s from one of the Moderators in the Mi Community, but they’re not always correct when it comes to MIUI updates and ETA.

That said, we believe that Redmi Note 8T Android 11 will arrive much later. For now, there isn’t any news about the update on the global models. Only the Chinese version of the Note 8 has received Android 11, and we hope to get more details about the eligibility of the Note 8T for a new OS when the global model starts adopting Android 11.
