The Redmi Note 9 is the latest eligible phone to start pushing the stable MIUI 12.5 update. It is the Indian models bagging the update after the initial release in China a couple of days ago. That also means we are a few weeks away before the update starts hitting devices in other regions. However, that depends on the initial preview, and hopefully, there won’t be any serious bugs. That way, the update could arrive for the public in the coming weeks, but with the right tools, you can install manually via Recovery.
The Redmi Note 9 MIUI 12.5 update in India is arriving in a 2.1GB package. It carries a software version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RJOINXM – and comes with features of the new MIUI OS. They include instant response to gestures, custom device model adjustments, optimization, new animation, and a revamped Note app. Interestingly, the update has bumped the Android security patch level to July 2021 to increase system security and stability while addressing some minor bugs.
Aside from introducing features of MIUI 12.5, the update comes with that of Android 11. The Redmi Note 9 MIUI 12.5 update in India is based on Android 11, meaning those in that region are getting both builds simultaneously. That is commendable as Global and European models will received MIUI 12.5 in a separate build, having bagged the Android 11 update a few weeks back. However, it is unclear when Xiaomi will start pushing these updates, but we won’t wait long. That said, you should keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update becomes available in your region.
