Xiaomi, for months now, has been sending out a stable MIUI 12 based Android 11 update to its eligible devices. The Redmi Note 9 Pro received the update last year, and that confirmed the Note 9S was going to receive the build very soon, given that both phones are the same, but for different regions. Things took a different turn a couple of days ago when the company started sending out a new Android 11 update to the Redmi Note 9 Pro India, while the Note 9S received only a patch build. However, according to a recent report, Xiaomi has now released the Redmi Note 9S Android 11 update.
The Redmi Note 9S Android 11 update is currently seeding globally. It’s arriving with a version number – MIUI 12.0.1.0 RJWMIXM – and weighs in at 2.3GB. Of course, it has pushed the device OS to Android 11 and the security, as well, up to January 2021. Also, you’d notice improved performance and the Android 11 chat bubbles.
Meanwhile, as usual, the update is on a limited rollout for now. And because it’s the first Android 11 update rolling out for the device, it might take weeks before appearing on your device. The few lucky ones that’ll receive the update are to preview it for bugs and report back to developers. Depending on the nature of the bug, developers will then decide on when to initiate a wider rollout.
But while we wait on the public release, you can side-load the build with a compatible TWRP Recovery installed. We have added a link to the recovery ROM below this post. However, you should back up your data before installing the build in case of data loss or a need to perform a factory reset.
