Xiaomi is following a particular sequence with the MIUI 12.5 deployment. The rollout started in China with the Mi 11 series and was later pushed to the Mi 10 phones. A couple of weeks after that, they started rolling out the update to the Mi 9 SE, of which the Mi 9 is currently running the new MIUI OS. The company has now released the MIUI 12.5 update for Mi 8 in China, hinting at an imminent global release.
The 2018 Xiaomi flagship phone – Mi 8 – was always going to receive the MIUI 12.5 update. Initially, there were doubts, but one of the company’s executives was quick to clear all doubts. According to him, the Xiaomi Mi 8 series will receive the new MIUI OS but based on Android 10. And a couple of days ago, it was confirmed the device will start adopting the new OS soon. Going by the recent report, Xiaomi has released the MIUI 12.5 update for Mi 8 in China.
Of course, the update brings the features of the new MIUI OS. Some of them include instant response to gestures, new system sounds, enhanced privacy, and more rendering power. The update has supposedly reduced power consumption and background memory by 25%. Also, with some optimization made on the system, MIUI is now faster, smoother, and lighter. Aside from these features, the Android security patch level has been pushed to May 2021 to increase system security and stability. You can check all the changes here.
As for when the update will arrive on global models, there’s no ETA. However, given how Xiaomi has gone about the rollout, we expect the global release in the coming weeks. That said, you should follow our tracker page to know when the update becomes available in your region.
