The Mi Mix 3 5G recently started receiving the stable MIUI 12 in Europe. That was after so much doubt, given that the device never received the MIUI 11 update. But then, it didn’t stop Xiaomi from pushing its latest Android skin – MIUI 12 to the device, and that was after it has rolled out a security patch update.
Meanwhile, there’s a report on the Mi community forum that claims “MIUI 12 for Mix 3 5G disables 5G.” Well, that seems to be the case when you look at the screenshot posted on the forum, and the fact that Moderators haven’t able to come up with something reasonable to that regard.
However, the truth is that the MIUI 12 update on Mi Mix 3 5G didn’t disable the 5G network option. Besides, the 5G option was never there. According to Daniel, an admin on Mi Mix 3 5G Telegram forum, the 5G option is only present on Vodafone models. On the EEA and Global models, “5G is always the preferred option unless you select 3G”.
In essence, 5G works on Mi Mix 3 5G “even though it isn’t in the settings of the global or EEA version of MIUI 12.” Hence, the device will automatically choose between the available networks; 5G and 4G. However, if you like seeing 5G on the preferred network option, you should wait for the Vodafone version of MIUI 12 to be released.
For now, there’s no ETA as to when the Vodafone version of MIUI 12 will start seeding, but since Xiaomi has released the stable version in Europe, it won’t be much time again. Also, the global users will receive the update as well, and once the update is released, we will make sure to update this space.
