Waze Android Automotive app built into a car infotainment system

Waze has announced the launching of a new dedicated app on select cars with Google built-in. The rollout is starting today, but only on limited vehicles, with wider availability expected next year.

Google Android Auto remains a popular navigation app, but with the issues that have plagued it, many users will do with an alternative. And while the Waze Automotive app seems a better alternative, it’s only available on Renault vehicles currently.

The latest dedicated Waze app supports real-time navigation, routing, and alerts. Also, preference and ability to save places on a bigger display without using your phone or USB cable.

However, availability is limited to the new Renault Austral Hybrid and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric vehicles in Europe. We expect to see support for more vehicles as soon as the company is “looking forward to bringing this excellent driving experience to more users across the globe in 2023.”

That said, those with the aforementioned cars can download the “Waze for OpenR link either directly from Google Play in their Renault vehicle or from their My Renault mobile app.” You can create a new account or use your existing Waze account for navigation.
