Let’s start by reminding you that MIUI and Android versions are completely agnostic. What it means is that a new MIUI update doesn’t necessarily mean an OS upgrade. Most Xiaomi phones have upgraded to MIUI 11, but only a few got a new Android OS with it. Besides, most Xiaomi phones are still getting MIUI stable ROM based on Android months after the custom ROM was released.

However, if your device is yet to receive a stable MIUI 11 based on Android 10, you can still receive the update. We will try to explain the conditions that qualify your device for the Android 10 upgrade.

Xiaomi releases phones basically in four categories: entry-level, mid-range, high-end, and flagship phones. From how Xiaomi had rolled out an update in the past, It rolls out two major OS updates to their flagship and high-end phones. For mid-range phones, they send only one major update as well as the entry-level device.

Meanwhile, for Android One phones, the official Android One page has it that “Android One phones will receive at least two years of OS upgrades. With the latest version of Android, you’ll get software that auto-adjusts to your needs, and helps you get things done more easily throughout the day.”

The Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite, and A3 already got the Android 10 build while the Mi A1 is stuck on Android Pie. That’s simply because it has received two Android OS updates. We have seen the Mi 6 receive stable MIUI 11 update but still on Pie, after receiving two major updates: Oreo and Pie. Also, the Mi 8 recently got Android 10, making it two OS upgrades, while the Redmi 5 and 6 series had only received one OS update.

Considering how Xiaomi rolls out updates and coupled with the fact they now have so many phones in their stables, you should expect two major updates only if you’re using their flagship or high-end phone. As for entry-level and mid-range users, if you have already received an OS update, it’s time you came to terms with the possibility that the days of getting major updates are over.

Needless to say, that the Redmi Note 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi 8A Dual, Redmi 8A Pro, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi 7, will all receive the Android 10 update. If you own any of these phones, patience is all you need to have as the update will arrive.
