Xiaomi announced a couple of days ago that it has finalized the second phase of MIUI 12.5 rollout and will get on with the third phase. The Redmi K30 4G was the first to receive the update, and shortly after that, Mi 8 started receiving the update. As expected, after the initial delay due to compatibility issues, the Mi 9 Pro 5G MIUI 12.5 update has been released. The device is receiving Android 11 as well, but exclusive to the Chinese region for now.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G Android 11 update had a slight setback. According to Xiaomi, they had to delay the release to fix some issues limiting the adoption. Of course, that’s done now as the update has started rolling out, at least in China for select users. After the beta preview, the public rollout will commence, and that’s when the update might extend to other regions.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G MIUI 12.5 update has a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RFXCNXM. It brings the features of the new MIUI OS and a stable MIUI based on Android 11. But that means that you’ll revert to the MIUI system launcher after upgrading. All Xiaomi phones running Android 11 have this bug that won’t allow seamless use of gestures on third-party launchers, and sometimes, it crashes the system.
The update did improve system performance and increased system security and stability, having bumped the Android security patch level to May 2021. However, we recommend a backup before upgrading should the factory become necessary after upgrading. And yes, that fixes most of the bugs encountered after a cross-section Android upgrade.
