The latest Xiaomi phone to start testing Android 12 internally is the Mi Pad series. Both debuted running Android 11 on top of MIUI 12.5 in China, while the Mi Pad 5 has since made a global appearance. The Redmi K40 / POCO F3 has been on internal testing for Android 12 for some time now. It seems Xiaomi is preparing to start pushing the build to closed beta testers, going by the latest report.
Google is expected to announce that stable Android 12 early next month, but we have seen OEM start pushing the OS based on their Android skin. Xiaomi is currently leading the race, having upgraded the Mi 11 units in the closed beta test to Android 12. The company is about doing the same for the Redmi K40 / POCO F3. Interestingly, Mi 11 Lite 5G and Mi 10S will also be getting the Android 12 beta build in the closed beta group soon.
And while the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series Android 12 is on internal testing, Redmi K40/POCO F3, Mi 10S, and Mi 11 Lite 5G will be released to the closed beta group. It means those participating in closed beta testing will receive the build while those on Xiaomi.eu will be able to upgrade to Android 12 when the update is released.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a clue when the update will be released. Also, we don’t know when the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series Android 12 will enter the closed beta group. However, with the swift testing, we expect full deployment once Google releases the stable version. Hopefully, the phones that have received Android 12 in the closed beta group will get it first on the stable channel.
That said, we will keep an eye on the development and will report here when the update becomes available for the public. For now, only closed beta testers for selected devices have received Android 12 on top of MIUI. However, we expect the list to expand in the coming weeks and months.
