Xiaomi Redmi Y3 to come with Snapdragon 625

After it seems like Xiaomi has finally retired the Snapdragon 625, haven featured in most of its mid-range device: Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Y2, MI A1. The Chinese company is only weeks away from officially announcing Redmi Y3, which will feature the Snapdragon 625 SoC. It’s a bit disappointing considering that the Snapdragon 632 that features in Redmi 7 is available and would definitely do a better job.

Nevertheless, the Redmi Y-series is basically a selfie device and never a powerhouse, so we might as well overlook the chip and focus on what the phone is all about. According to Geekbench listing, Redmi Y3 will debut with a 32 MP selfie camera and undisclosed dual rear camera sensors. It will have a gradient textured back, which on it is also a capacitive fingerprint identification scanner.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 625 will be paired with 3GB RAM and probably a 32GB internal memory storage. The listing also suggested MIUI 10 user interface based on Android Pie to spice things up, and we hope for an affordable price tag considering the specs so far revealed.

On the performance based on Geekbench, Redmi Y3 remained in the shadow of Redmi 7 after it managed to score 1236 on a single core and 4213 on a multi-core test. Both phones also have the same 4000mAh battery capacity and banking on Redmi 7, it’ll be a Micro USB port present for charging.

The official announcement for the Redmi Y3 is today and we expect to find out more about the device. More interesting will be the price tag, markets, and memory configurations.
