It was surprising to see the Mi 9 SE receive Android 11 before the flagship Mi 9. To make matters worse, Xiaomi released the update with MIUI 12.5 while leaving the Mi 9 languishing in Android 10 on top of MIUI 12. However, that’s gradually changing now, at least in China. Xiaomi has released a stable Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the Mi 9 in that region.
With the Chinese models now receiving a stable MIUI 12.5 update which brings Android 11 along, it won’t be long till the global users start receiving the update. Looking at the Mi 9 SE, it took about two weeks after the Chinese rollout for the update to arrive on global units. And shortly after that, the European users started receiving the update. Hence, we expect the Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for Mi 9 to be widely available towards the tail of this month.
Meanwhile, the update is hitting eligible units with a version number – MIUI 12.5.3.0 RFACNXM – in a 2.6GB package. It brings all the changes of the new MIUI OS. They include MIUI+, new system sounds and animation, Super wallpapers, and enhanced privacy protection. Of course, the package also includes a stable MIUI based on Android 11 while pushing the Android security patch level to April 2021 to increase system security and stability. You can check the complete changes here.
