MIUI updates

The Android 11 update won’t arrive on Xiaomi Mi 8 and all phones that debuted with Snapdragon 845, according to a new report

After the release of Android 11 beta 1 to Google Pixel phones, a couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi announced its plans to bring the update to its device. The company has already started the development of Android 11 for some premium phones. Thus far, over eight Xiaomi phones are currently having a closed beta testing for the update, while the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Redmi K30 Pro are having an open beta testing, which is arriving alongside the MIUI 12 update.

Android 11 update for Xiaomi Mi 8

According to the latest report, the Android 11 update will arrive on more than 20 Xiaomi phones, including the Redmi K20 / Mi 9T. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi flagship phone of 2018 – Mi 8 – won’t be getting the update. But that was expected, given that the device has received two OS updates: Android 9 and 10, which is the maximum for premium Xiaomi phones.

And while the Android 11 update for Xiaomi Mi 8 won’t be happening, the device will still get some features of the new OS. Like the back tap functionality – an Android 11 feature – being integrated into the MIUI 12, and more we’re not aware of yet.

Meanwhile, below is the list of Xiaomi phones that will get the Android 11 update according to the latest report. The update will probably arrive with the MIUI 12, while some devices on that list will receive it as a part of the MIUI 13 build.
