Xiaomi, a few days ago, turned to the Redmi Note 9 series. It’s currently pushing the January security patch build to all the devices that launched under the series but seem to prioritize the Indian variants. While other regions are getting a stable MIUI 12 based Android 10 update, those in India are getting their second MIUI 12-based Android 11 Update. However, according to a recent report from the Mi community forum, Android 11 will come to all Redmi Note 9 series phones very soon.
Unfortunately, the ETA “soon” is vague, and given the complexities of MIUI update sometimes, we might be in for a long wait. Take, for example, the time it took Xiaomi to finalize the Android 10-based MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8. However, we believed the company learned from that and has also improved. Also, since the Redmi Note 9 Pro in India is currently receiving its second Android 11 build, it means other regions could be about to start getting the update as well.
That said, if you’re waiting for the Android 11 update on the Redmi Note 9 series, which comprises – Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9S, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, Redmi Note 9 – you’re advised to be patient. The good thing is that Android 11 will come to all Redmi Note 9 series phones with time, and you can follow our Xiaomi Android 11 update tracker to know when the update starts rolling out.

Also, if you’re using the phones above, you’ll receive the MIUI 12.5 update. Xiaomi will start pushing the stable version from April in China, and going by the roadmap, the Note 9 series might receive the update later. For now, you should check the updater app and fortify your device with the latest patch build as we wait for the MIUI 12.5 and Android 11 update.
