Apple iPhone XS Max

Apple unveiled the largest iPhone in history when they officially announced the iPhone XS Max with a massive 6.5-inch super Retina display. The size is achieved on a traditional 5.5-inch panel screen, giving to the dissolving of bezels and adding a few extra heights to leave a notch, extending the panel to 19.5:9, to light up the iPhone XS Max specifications.

The new super Retina OLED display features the same 458PPI as in the iPhone X, but the resolution has been revamped to leave a 1242 x 2688px. The operation will even be smoother with a screen touch sensing layer running @ 120Hz. It also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, while the dynamic range has been boost by 60%.

iPhone XS Max featured the same A12 Bionic chip as in the lower tier- iPhone XS. It features a total of 6 cores consisting of 2 big cores and 4 small cores with a 40% improvement compared to its predecessors. It has a 4-core GPU exclusively designed by Apple with 50% improved performance and higher bandwidth, all thanks to the lossless compression. The device will run Apple iOS 12 out of the box and will outperform most premium Android phones interns of performance and speed.

The camera department features 12MP, with a massive 1.4um pixel lens that featured in both Galaxy S9 and Note 9. It still maintains f/1.8 aperture from the iPhone X, while the telephoto camera has 12MP, f/2.4 aperture lens, coupled with 2x optical zoom and OIS. The selfie camera also maintains the 7MP RGB sensor of f/2. 2 aperture lens with improving shutter speed and HDR support.

Not just the iPhone XS Max but all the iPhone of 2018 has to do with just a single means of biometric authentication – Facial ID. It has been improved for quicker response time and more accurate facial recognition with an infrared camera.

The battery life has been improved coupled with the optimized chip to deliver ample of time on talk time. Meanwhile, the capacity is 3000mAh that charges through USB 2.0 reversible connector, while supporting both fast and wireless charging.

Display

For the first time ever, Apple phone is sporting a massive 6.5-inch display. The display is what Apple calls super Retina OLED display, with an improved 1242 x 2688px resolution onboard 458PPI for immersive and seamless display. Apple was able to achieve the numbers on a traditional 5.5-inch panel by dissolving the length while adding extra height to remain only a notch at the top. The display just like the iPhone XS supports True-tone display and touch-sensing at 120Hz for super fast operations. It also has Dolby Vision/HDR10 compliant, wide color gamut and 3D touch display.
With all these, the screen is protected with scratch-resistant glass and finished with an oleophobic coating to offer maximum durability against scratch and mild falls.

Performance

Most Android phones have started featuring up to 10GB RAM. For Apple, there is more to speed than just the RAM, and that’s why on the iPhone XS Max, you will only get a 4GB RAM that will outperform all the Android flagship in terms of performance.
Meanwhile, under the hood is Apple A12 Bionic hexa-core chip that features in iPhone X.
According to Apple, the two big cores is 15% faster and has 40% power efficiency compared to the A11 chip. The power usage of the small cores has been halved. The 4-core GPU offer 50% higher performance and higher memory bandwidth with the help of lossless compression. There is what Apple called Neural Engine, with half the number of cores as the predecessors, but is 100% more powerful and can do trillion operations. iPhone XS Max out of the box will run iOS 12.

Storage

iPhone XS Max comes in multiple storage options. The variants include 64GB, which is the base version, 256GB, and the premium 512GB internal storage. Just like it has been the tradition of Apple, you won’t be getting expansion slot in any of the 3 versions.

Camera

The camera sensor is still 12MP, it hasn’t jumped to 25MP just yet. The camera which is also another selling point for Apple phones features 12MP f/1.8 lens primary sensor with a larger pixel of 1.4um, the same that featured in Galaxy S9 and Note 9. The depth sensor has a 12MP f/2.4 lens with 2x optical zoom and OIS onboard.
The bokeh effect features have been revamped and now allows you to adjust the depth of field after taken photos. The HDR feature has also been improved and now with zero shutter lag. The camera captures a 4 frame buffer, interface and also a long exposure which is integrated into a single photo with dynamic range.
The selfie camera still retains the improve 7MP RGB sensor. It features a f/2.2 aperture lens, 22mm sensor size, HDR and can shoot 1080p@30fps video.

Security

The facial ID is the way forward. Apple has completely eliminated the fingerprint scanner in all the recently released iPhone. They have improved the performance of Facial ID for fast recognition with the use of infrared camera lens. The security has been revamped to provide optimized users experience.

Battery

Packed inside the iPhone XS Max is a 3000mAh non-removable battery. It supports USB 2.0 apples reversible connector and supports fast charge technology that charges 50% from 0 in 30 minutes. It also supports Qi wireless charging and that’s because of the glass back.
