Apple iPhone XS

It has now been confirmed that iPhone X of last year is the future of Apple phone design. The fingerprint scanner has been eliminated completely, but the notch designed is retained.

Apples XS uses the same chip – A12 bionic chip but has seen a massive revamp. Even with just a 4GB RAM, the chip will outperform all the Android flagship of the year coupled with a whopping 512GB internal memory. There is also the 64GB and 256GB version.

The chip is built on a 7nm process and has only just 6 cores ( 2 big + 4 small). The GPU boost of 4-cores plus the new 8-core neutral engine, adding up the 6.9 billion transistors involved in the process.
Apple XS has a new 5.8-inch super Retina OLED display with 1225 x 2436px resolution. Its pixel density is the same with iPhone XS Max and a touch frame rate clocking at 120Hz. There has been an improvement in the speakers for a wider sound production.

Surprisingly, Apple has joined the dual SIM functionality and China is expected to get a special model with dual physical sim slot. Those in the West will do with eSim and a single sim slot.

Display

Apple has introduced what they called super Retina OLED display in the iPhone XS. The 5.8-inch display has a wide view display angles with 19.5:9 aspect ratio panel, and notch. It features 1125 x 2436px resolution onboard 458PPI coupled with over 16m colors to deliver vivid and colorful details. The display supports True-tone display and touch-sensing at 120Hz for super fast operations. It also has Dolby Vision/HDR10 compliant, wide color gamut and 3D touch display.
With all these, the screen is protected with scratch-resistant glass and finished with an oleophobic coating to offer maximum durability against scratch and mild falls.

Performance

While most Android phones have started featuring up to 10GB RAM, Apple is yet to release a phone with 6GB RAM. Even at that, the new iPhone XS will outperform all the Android Flagships in terms of performance with just a 4GB RAM. Under the hood, there is Apple A12 Bionic chip with 6 cores (2 big + 4 small), coupled with Apple GPU of 4-cores for graphics.
According to Apple, the two big cores is 15% faster and has 40% power efficiency compared to the A11 chip. The power usage of the small cores has been halved. The 4-core GPU offers 50% higher performance and higher memory bandwidth with the help of lossless compression. There is what Apple called Neural Engine, with half the number of cores as the predecessors, but is 109% more powerful and can do trillion operations. iPhone XS out of the box will run iOS 12.

Storage

You already know is Apple and there won’t be any space for expansion. It all depends on the amount you’re willing to spend on a bigger memory variant. iPhone XS comes in multiple memory storage which includes 64GB- the base version, 246GB, and the bigger 512GB variant.

Camera

The wide-angle sensor is still 12MP, it hasn’t jumped to 25MP just yet. The camera which is also another selling point for Apple phones features f/1.8 lens, a larger pixel of 1.4um, that featured in Galaxy S9 and Note 9. The depth sensor has a 12MP f/2.4 lens with 2x optical zoom and OIS onboard.
The bokeh effect features have been revamped and now allows you to blur your photos. The HDR feature has also been improved and now with zero shutter lag. The camera captures a 4 frame buffer, interface and also a long exposure which is integrated into a single photo with dynamic range.
The selfie camera has an improved 7MP RGB sensor. It features a f/2.2 aperture lens, 22mm sensor size, HDR and can shoot 1080p@30fos video.

Security

The only biometric authentication is the face identification. The fingerprint scanner has been eliminated completely remaining only the facial ID. Apple has improved on the security for faster face recognition. The 3D face ID makes you of the infrared camera when scanning your face.

Battery

Packed inside the iPhone XS is a 3000mAh non-removable battery. It supports USB 2.0 apples reversible connector and supports fast charge technology, that charges 50% from 0% in 30 minutes. It also supports Qi wireless charging and that’s because of the glass back.
