Google’s December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop brings multiple features

Google’s December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop is here, the 12th, and it’s bringing features to all the Pixel smartphones, although some Pixels don’t get all the features (The Pixel 7 lineup gets all). Let’s see what the Big G is bringing in via this December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop

Details of Google’s December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop

First off, the Pixel 7 series is getting the VPN by Google One and Speaker labels. “Google One VPN is focused on masking your traffic and IP address, reducing online tracking, and providing protection on public Wi-Fi and other unsecured networks.” And for the Speaker labels, the feature was said to be present in the Pixel Recorder 4.2 and will be rolled out soon – we guess it’s that time.

The Speaker labels “automatically detects and labels each speaker when recording”. Furthermore, “Voice models are stored temporarily on-device until speaker labelling of your transcript is completed, and then deleted (usually within a few minutes). The speaker text labels will be saved in your transcript, and can be updated by you.” Fortunately, the feature will be rolling out in the Pixel 6 lineup(together with the Pixel 7 series).

Via the December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop, the Pixel 7 series will be getting Clear Calling. As the name goes, it helps enhance calls by filtering background noises. According to the brand, this is a prowess that is shown by the Tensor G2. To activate this feature navigate to Settings>Sound and Vibration>Clear Calling.

9to5google mentioned that the Clear Calling feature didn’t, however, eliminate all the background noise but it was reduced to a negligible hiss. The feature seems to function with all calls other than VOIP(voice over internet protocol) calls.

Another noticeable tweak from the December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop is the Security and Privacy settings tweak. The two sections are merged and there’s a visible Play Protect card at the top that helps you scan your device and detect risks in the process (and also proffer solutions to those risks). Below it is the App Security, Screen Lock, Google Security Checkup, Find My Device and Updates tab which expands for other options on tapping.

Some other features from the December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop are a “More Powerful” Pixel Launcher Search, Curated Culture Wallpaper Drop(which marks the international day for disabilities), and Spatial Audio(which gives you an immersed sound while watching your movies and shows. The feature will be available on the Pixel Buds Pro and you can use it on the Wired headphones connected to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7).

Meanwhile, there’s Cough and Snore Detection as well, a feature present in the Pixel 7 series that was brought to the Pixel 6. The December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop is coming in via the Android 13 QPR1 and there might be some fixes under the hood as usual as well as updates to Play Store(we’ll keep you posted if we notice any changes)
