Xiaomi continues to push the stable MIUI 12.5 update to eligible phones in its stables, as they continue to release new ones. This time, it’s the global Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update that has started seeding to select users for preview. That’s roughly seven days after the Chinese release, and hence, we expect the public rollout to commence in the coming days. Unlike the Chinese build, the Google services framework is intact and you should go ahead and download the update when prompted.

It’s no news that Xiaomi has disabled Google Service Framework on its Chinese ROM. Apparently, it has been carried out on mid-range and older phones, as premium Xiaomi phones sold in China can still install Google Play Services. Also, some mid-range phones like Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G / Mi 10T lite / Mi 10i and Redmi K40 Gaming Edition / POCO F3 GT have a working Google services framework. Perhaps, the move to bring back Google for the duo was based on demand, and hopefully, the other will grant the same for all devices.

Meanwhile, the global Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update has the Google Play Services working perfectly. The update is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RJCMIXM – and weighs in at 636MB. It brings the features of the new MIUI OS to improve performance. Also, system security and stability have been enhanced as the update bumps the Android security patch level to July 2021. Unfortunately, it couldn’t address the third-party launcher compatibility problem and the square chat bubbles. Of course, you might experience other issues after upgrading, but you should be able to fix 80% when you perform a factory reset. However, only do that after you must have backed up your data to a safe location.

Performing a factory reset after the update might not be necessary as the feedback so far is positive. The update has re-enabled the blur effect on the control center and supposedly fixed the low brightness issue. There’s a new control volume control UI while sound has been added to the start-up animation.
