Personalized speech recognition coming to Google Assistant

Many tweaks and updates have been brought to the Google Assistant which even mobile and Android Auto users have benefited from. The Big G makes the Google Assistant give faster responses and also includes one-tap messaging as a feature for the software. Personalized speech recognition has joined the sleek features of the Google Assistant.

Personalized speech recognition

In March last year, the company employed the use of federated learning to give an enhancement in the Google Assistant hotword accuracy. This personalized speech recognition is a leap towards a better Google Assistant.

According to sources, the Personalized speech recognition has a description in the Google Assistant which says “store audio recordings on this device to help Google Assistant get better at recognizing what you say. The audio stays on this device and can be deleted at any time by turning off personalized speech recognition. Learn more”

The learn more option there might be linked to a support article where the company explains how it uses voice recording stored on users’ devices to improve the Google Assistant model like the “Hey Google”.

Using the Personalized speech recognition feature, Google is hoping to expand machine learning-based improvements beyond the usual “Hey Google”. Some amazing feats are using audio of past utterances to give more accurate transcriptions in the future as well as a faster response time.

Following some improvements to the Assistant, the feature will be a very impressive addition to the other features and on toggling off the feature, Google warns that the Google Assistant will be less accurate in recognizing the words you use frequently. The already stored audio will be deleted on the device as well.

Personalized speech recognition, an addition to the other features

The day this new feature is going to make its way to the Google Assistant wasn’t specified, but we sure have other sleek features like the “look and talk feature” and the ability to check fits and Fitbit stats using the Google Assistant. We still await the launch of the feature and the other enhancements to come with it, till then we will keep an eye out for more tweaks.
