The Xiaomi Mi 8 series phones was once a doubt for the MIUI 12.5 update, but the company was quick to clear any doubt. It was one of the executives that confirmed the phones to upgrade to MIUI 12.5 but they wouldn’t get Android 11. That is because premium Xiaomi phones only get two Android OS upgrades, of which the Mi 8 series phones elapsed their support with Android 10, having debuted running Android 8.1 Oreo. However, with the features baked inside the current MIUI build, you’ll get most Android 11 features after upgrading.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Explorer Edition MIUI 12.5 update is a Chinese release. That could mean that the update will soon start seeding for the global models. However, those in China are getting the update with a build number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 QEECNXM and MIUI 12.5.1.0 QEHCNXM, respectively. It brings the features of the new MIUI OS to improve the performance and stability of the system. The update has improved gesture response time, introduced new system sounds and animation, enhanced security, and more.
Aside from introducing all the MIUI 12.5 goodies, which also include uninstalling system apps, the update bumps the Android security patch level to May 2021. However, you might start having problems with Google Play Services after upgrading your device. And if you encounter such a problem, head over to this link here and sort it out.
