The Mi Mix series is where Xiaomi shows its innovation prowess. We saw much of it when the company debuted Mi Mix 3 – first device from the company to feature a true full-view display by making use of a manual popup mechanism for the selfie shooter. The device after some weeks was reintroduced as Mi Mix 3 5G. It has similar specs with the Mix 3 but supports 5G connectivity.
The MI Mix 3 5G is currently on sale for $399.99, and it’s believed to be the reason most people want to grab a deal. However, before you spend that few bucks on Xiaomi MI Mix 3 5G, here is everything you need to know.
Let’s take a look at the specs the device debuted with a 6.39-inch super AMOLED display of 1080p resolution with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It features a Snapdragon 855 Octa-Core processor with up to 10GB RAM and 256GB ROM. The device outside-of-the-box runs Android 9 on top MIUI 10, and that’s where most, if not all, the problem with the phones lies.
While Xiaomi has updated a bunch of its smartphones to Android 10, the Mi Mix 3 5G is still stuck on Android 9. Meanwhile, the Chinese version already updated to Android 10, while the global non-5G variant has also got the update. However, according to moderators in the Mi community forum, there’s no ETA to Mi Mix 3 5G Android 10 arrival. Even the official device list doesn’t have the phone listed.
Apart from lack of support, some Mi Mix 3 5G units come with a MIUI ROM without 5G in the network option. A user was able to get around it by unlocking the bootloader to install a custom ROM that’s compatible with 5G. But unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom ROM will void your warranty, and again, your device might brick if anything goes wrong in the process.
Another thing is battery draining issues that seem not to go away even with the few updates that have been sent to the phone. And don’t be optimistic that Mi Mix 3 5G Android 10 update will fix this issue because it might not come anytime soon, at least for now.
Considering how treble Xiaomi has treated its flagship, you might need to reconsider getting the device. The Mi Mix 3 5G Android 10 update is not coming soon. Luckily, there are a bunch of Xiaomi phones now with 5G connectivity you can go for, and you’re also guaranteed maximum support, at least for the next few years.
Some of these devices include Redmi K30 5G, Redmi K30 Pro, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10, and Mi 10 Lite. The prices are affordable, and they’re compatible with 5G connectivity. However, if you’ve decided against 5G, you can check the Note 9 Max, Poco X2, Redmi K30, Note 9S, and Note 9 Pro.
