Earlier today, Lei Jun confirmed the company wouldn’t unveil MIUI 13 this month as alleged. According to the CEO, the next iteration of MIUI will be released at the end of the year, giving more time to polish the build. That will also give the company time to finalize the MIUI 12.5 development. As anticipated, the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A MIUI 12.5 update has been released for Chinese users. But while that’s exciting news, you might have to think twice before upgrading your device to the latest iteration of MIUI.
The MIUI 13 won’t be seeding until late this year, as confirmed by Xiaomi’s Chief Executive Officer. According to him, the build will be unveiled at the end of the year and possibly alongside Mi 12. That will allow time to finalize the MIUI 12.5 rollout, which is now available for the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A. However, the rollout is exclusive to Chinese models, and it is a stable beta release at the moment. It is seeding in that region with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 QCNCNXM and MIUI 12.5.1.0 QCPCNXM, respectively.
As expected, the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A MIUI 12.5 update is based on Android 10. There are no plans for a new OS upgrade, as the devices have already bagged the promised OS upgrade, having debuted with Android 9. However, the device will get the MIUI 13, and that’ll bring some of the latest Android features. Of course, that’ll include the features of the upcoming MIUI 13,
Meanwhile, while the updates seeding for the duo is a welcome development, it has disabled Google Service Framework. It means that after upgrading your Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A (Chinese models) to MIUI 12.5, Google Play Services / Store apps will stop working. Other than that, the update is safe, and you can proceed with the installation. And concerning when the update will be available Globally, there’s no ETA.
