It’s still unclear if the Redmi 8 will receive the MIUI 12.5 update since it’s not among the phones participating in the closed beta test for the update. The Mi Play won’t get the MIUI 12.5 as it currently runs MIUI 11 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. However, the duo is receiving a new stable update. It comes with the MIUI 12 features for the Redmi 8 users in China, while Mi Play is getting an updated security patch.
For the Mi Play, the new update is hitting eligible units with a version number – MIUI 11.0.11.0. It’s a security patch update and has updated the Android security level to January 2021 and improved the system security and stability. The update will arrive via OTA in the coming days, but you can download the ROM with the links below and flash using the recovery method.
Meanwhile, the Redmi 8 MIUI 12 update brings the MIUI 12 features to the Chinese ROM users. It also bumps the security patch level to January 2021 while fixing bugs and optimizing system performance. You can either wait for the update to arrive via OTA in the coming days or follow the link below to download. And if you opt for OTA, It will arrive with a version number MIUI 12.0.1.0 QCNCNXM and weighs in at 713MB.
