Android YouTube app to get a new look

Amidst all the other activities Google is involved in, specifically app changes, update rollouts and tweaks here and there, the Android YouTube app is getting some sort of new look – it’s just a little change though.

The change on the Android YouTube App

The tweak on the Android YouTube app is in the progress bar, the bar that shows how much of a video you’ve watched in the app. The progress bar also shows how much part of the video you have downloaded while you’re watching any video in portrait orientation.

Usually, as noticed by most Android users, the progress bar on the Android YouTube app(both in light and dark mode) is red but sources reported that it’s white now while in Dark mode. The shortcoming to this white progress bar is that you wouldn’t be able to know how much of the video has been downloaded since usually, that part is white on the progress bar.

That said, when you tap on the progress bar to move ahead while watching any videos, the red colour is noticed again so as the video controls. When the red colour is visible, you will then know how much of the video is downloaded in the Android YouTube app. Well, this whole colour change shenanigans are only noticed when you’re watching a video in portrait orientation as well as in Dark mode.

No changes have been noticed for the landscape orientation (at least for now). There’s a possibility however that the brand will implement it sooner or later. Or it could just be that the brand is running some A/B testing with the Android YouTube app. If you’ve not noticed this change on your YouTube, do not worry, we’re not even certain the feature has come to stay. Meanwhile, according to sources, the tweak was spotted on a Google Pixel 6 Pro running on the Android 13 QPR2 Beta 1.
