Xiaomi is bringing back Google Play Services framework support on Chinese phones

A couple of weeks after Xiaomi started pushing MIUI 12.5 beta builds to closed beta groups, there was a report that the update disabled the Google Play service framework. At first, it was believed to be a bug until Xiaomi confirmed it saying it was disabled due to compliances. Of course, Google is banned in China, and that’s the reason why devices developed for use in that country don’t come pre-installed with Google Play Services. However, it has been easy to install GMS on these phones until the recent development, but it seems that Xiaomi is now bringing back Google Play Services framework support on its Chinese phones.

After disabling “Google Mobile Services, the company released a statement that it will henceforth not pre-install its Chinese phone with the Google Play Services framework. That’ll make it impossible to install Google Apps, but promised to review it in the future if demand persists, and might decide to enable it on select phones. Of course, there has been a huge demand for the Google Play service framework to be re-enabled, and it seems Xiaomi has now enabled it on select devices.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G received the stable MIUI 12.5 update a couple of days ago, and according to reports, the update came with Basic Google Services pre-installed. That means you can enable it to start using Google Play Services and stores. Also, according to the latest report, a new update seeding for the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition came with support for the Google Play Services framework. After Installing the stable MIUI 12.5.5.0 RKJCNXM update, you’ll be able to install GMS apps, but you might need the Google installer APK.
