MediaTek vs Snapdragon powered device

Things started getting messy when Xiaomi released it’s MIUI 11 roadmap, and Redmi Note 8 Pro was scheduled to receive the update in December. The device with all the hype should at least receive the update ahead of others, but that’s not the case because even Redmi Note 4 of 2017 has received the update.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro runs MediaTek Helio G90T processor, which is why the update will be arriving in December. Nevertheless, the Chip is powerful, but when compared with Snapdragon SoC under the same category, you already know who the winner will be.

MediaTek vs Snapdragon powered device

Note: this comparison is from personal experience. It’s not related to anything that is on the web.

It was in 2016 when WhatsApp announced is pulling out from blackberry phones. Then I was a die-hard Blackberry fan, and my Blackberry Q10 was still new. A great device, but I had to let go to continue enjoying WhatsApp chats. I was naive that I never try to look up for reviews about MediaTek vs Snapdragon powered device, and it cost me dearly.

I bought Cubot Note S, powered by MediaTek. It was a great phone with good design, but the processor inside made things hard for me. To date, that phone is still the worst experience I ever had using a smartphone. It took 4 hours to charge (No Quickcharge), and the battery drains in the next two hours, very funny. Again, the phone when subjected to heavy usage automatically turns off itself after some seconds.

During that time, I had no money, so I had to do with the phone for one year, and during those times, I never received any updates. Fast forward to 2017, when I started using Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, believe me, the phone is everything Cubot Note S was not.

Again, in late 2017, I brought Oukitel C8 and U15 Pro for my sisters, both running Mediatek processor. At first, everything looked smooth until the device was used to transfer a file to a computer. The device started hitting so badly and could nearly last hours on a single charge. It became so bad that I had to buy new phones for them, and now, a device with Snapdragon Chipset, which I did after comparing MediaTek vs Snapdragon powered device.

However, I haven’t used a flagship MediaTek Processor device, and I doubt if there’s any. But all the times I bought a mid-range device harboring the SoC, it disappoints big time.

Here are a few things I noticed after my time with MediaTek processor.

  • MediaTek phones hardly receive an update, and even when they do, it comes late.
  • The processor produces too much heat, no wonder, Redmi Note 8 Pro has liquid cool.
  • Because of the heating, battery performance is always poor.
  • It sucks when multitasking is what you do the most time.
  • Overall, it has been a bad experience for me with MediaTek Processors.

Meanwhile, since I opted using Snapdragon powered device, I stop facing so many issues. I started putting away my phone only because I want to try something new. Also, you get updates on time, good battery life, and multitask on a high level as well.
