Google is expected to officially reveal it’s next Android OS – Android 11 in mid-2020, at Google IO 2020. The event will be held from 12-14 May, after which the update will be rolled out to Pixel phones. Other Android devices will start getting the update late 2020 through 2021
The update will officially answer Android 11, and Google already confirmed that. It’s also in agreement with what Google said during the release of Android 10. The company promised to name their new operating system numerically.
Google will unveil its newest operating system at the IO in May 2020. We expect the launch on May 12 as Google Keynotes happens on the first day of the developer conference. And while the launch is still months away, the first preview of the new operating system is available for download. However, the update can only run on Google Pixel phones, and it’s exclusive for developers only.
Features of Android 11
The first Google developer preview is now available, while Google has also released a new update to Android 11 developers. Meanwhile, the update didn’t come with any changes, but bug fixes and optimization. We have to wait for the stable build of the update before we can experience the new features that have been integrated into Android 11.
Extended screenshot
This particular feature is already on most Xiaomi phones running MIUI 11. However, Google could integrate it into the Android 11 to allow more users to capture extended screenshots without relying on third-party apps. It was Dave Burke, an engineer in the Google team that disclosed this in a tweet.
Airplane and Bluetooth mode
For those that travel by air frequently, this new feature allows active Bluetooth connection in airplane mode. It will leave the Bluetooth active on airplane mode.
Scoped storage
Scope storage will be among the features of Android 11. It aims at optimizing the speed of memory reading and privacy. This particular Android 11 feature will allow creating a second folder dedicated to the files created by the app in use where the app can read and overwrite any files without the user having to grant permission. It’s a feature that will focus on privacy and security and will make the process of reading files faster as well.
Alleged Xiaomi phones to get Android 11
Note: This list of Xiaomi phones to get Android 11 is based on assumption. It’s not an official list from Xiaomi, but a list put together by us. The new OS will likely come with MIUI 12 to some Xiaomi phones, but that is not certain.
- Xiaomi MI 10 Pro
- Xiaomi MI 10
- Xiaomi MI 9
- Xiaomi MI 9 Pro 5G
- Xiaomi MI Note 10/ CC9 Pro
- Mi Mix Alpha
- Xiaomi MI A3
- POCO F1
- POCO X2
- Redmi K30
- Redmi K20 Pro/ Mi 9T Pro
( The Android 11 will probably come to all Xiaomi phones that debuted running Android 10)
With how Xiaomi rolls out their new MIUI updates, not all phones will get Android 11 with the MIUI 12. And because Xiaomi only rolls out one major update to its mid-range device, most phones that debuted with Android 9 and now runs Android 10 won’t get the update.
The Mi A3 makes our Xiaomi phones to get Android 11 because it’s an Android One device and will get two major updates. The K30 will get the update as it debuted with Android 10. Redmi K20 pro/ Mi 9T Pro is a flagship because it runs premium Qualcomm SoC. The device has received one major OS update already, but we hope it will get Android 11 as well.
Again, the above list is not an official list of Xiaomi phones to get Android 11 with MIUI 12. We came up with the list haven studied how the company rolls out OS updates.
